Ms. Subhani Nanayakkara

Acting Chief Legal Officer

Mrs. Subhani Nanayakkara was appointed as the Acting Chief Legal Officer of the Bank with effect from 1 December 2025. An accomplished Attorney-at-Law with almost 25 years of experience, she has proudly served the Bank for 21 remarkable years, during which she has made significant contributions in recovery, credit, and human resource related legal matters. Before joining the Bank of Ceylon, Mrs. Nanayakkara gained professional experience at the Attorney General’s Department, a leading law firm in Sri Lanka, and the unofficial Bar.

Since February 2020, she has served as the Deputy Chief Legal Officer (Recovery and Litigation Management), providing strategic legal counsel to the Bank with a primary focus on recovery-related litigation and enforcement actions. She has been responsible for overseeing high-value claims against the Bank ensuring timely and effective legal intervention to safeguard the Bank’s interests and support the achievement of its corporate objectives. 

Mrs. Nanayakkara holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Second Class Upper Division) from the University of Colombo and a Master of Laws from the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University. She has also obtained a Post-Attorney Diploma in Finance, Banking and Insurance Laws from the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies with a Merit Pass and a Diploma in International Affairs from the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies.

Mrs. Nanayakkara has represented the Bank before various regulatory and quasi-judicial bodies, including Presidential Committees, the Commissioner of Labour, the Human Rights Commission, the Financial Ombudsman, and the Rent Board. In addition, she serves as a resource person in legal recovery, contributing to both internal and external training programmes.

She is also a Colours winner in Athletics and Badminton, having represented the Bank with distinction at Nationalized Services Tournaments.
