Treasury Bills

• A Treasury Bill is a short-term financing instrument issued by the CBSL on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka
• CBSL currently issues T-bills with original maturities of 91, 182, and 364 days
• T-bill is a discounted security that pays a fixed amount at maturity (Face Value/Fair Value), therefore it has no intervening interest payment
• Interest basis 364 days
• Issued in scripless form

Benefits

• Interest and maturity proceeds are assured by the Government
• Not subject to withholding tax
• T-bills are tradable in the secondary market and instantly liquidatable

Documents Required

For new Individual / Joint Investors

• Duly filled application form
• Customer Agreement for Government Securities - Two copies of the customer agreement should be completed and duly signed
• Copy of National Identification Card / Driving License / Passport
• Address verification documents (If the given address differs from the NIC / the accounts maintained with Bank)  

For a new Company / Society / Association

• Duly filled application form  (Company / Society / Association)
• Customer Agreement for Government Securities - Two copies of the customer agreement should be completed and duly signed
• Board Resolution including the approval to invest in Government securities with Bank of Ceylon
• Certificate of Incorporation
• Submission of authorised signatories  
   

General Information

• Transactions are conducted through a Current A/C or Savings A/C maintained with Bank of Ceylon
• Minimum Amount of Treasury Bills is Rs. 10,000/- (Face Value)
• Applications should reach Treasury Division before 12.00 p.m.
• Applications can be forwarded to Treasury Division via email (pdu@boc.lk), fax (011 2448207) or through any Bank of Ceylon Branch
• For any withdrawals you may forward a formal request to the Treasury Division and your Treasury Bills will be discounted at the prevailing market rates.
