The Migrant Employee Rupee Account (MERA) is a tailored Sri Lanka Rupee account product designed for Sri Lankans employed abroad and residing outside Sri Lanka. These accounts can be opened as Savings Account, Fixed Deposit Account, or Current Account. However, cheque book facilities and overdraft facilities are not permitted for Current Accounts.

  • Can be opened via Business Promotion Officers overseas or by visiting a branch prior to departure
  • SMS alerts for (roaming activated) local mobile numbers
Required Documents

 

  • Duly filled application form
  • Customer Registration Form
  • Valid visa / overseas job contract
  • Passport
  • National Identity Card (NIC)
  • Proof of local address (if different from the address mentioned in the NIC)
Terms and Conditions
  • The applicant should be a Sri Lankan migrant employee 18 years or above (Excluding Emigrants)
  • All existing LKR accounts maintained with Bank of Ceylon will be converted to MERA accounts upon declaration of departure from Sri Lanka, and ATM cards issued for such accounts will be cancelled
  • Joint MERA accounts cannot be maintained between a resident and a non-resident
  • MERA accounts can be re-designated and continued as ordinary savings accounts once the migrant employee becomes a resident in Sri Lanka
  • Bank of Ceylon reserves the right to change, add, or revise any condition(s) and/or facilities offered under this product or service
