        Security measures that you can take to protect yourself when  
        processing online banking business :
 
  • Protect your password
  • Protect your secret question & answer
  • Set daily online transaction limits that better suit you
  • Check you are on Bank of Ceylon's site before logging in
  • Secure your computer
  • Be cautious when using public or shared computers

 

 

Protect your password :

  • Choose a password that can not be easily guessed and include some numeric  well as charter in your password.
  • Be ensure that others cannot see what you are entering when you are keying in your password.
  • Change your password regularly.
  • Don’t write down your password, keep it on your memory.
  • Don’t store secure site passwords on your web browser.

 

 

Protect your secret question & answer :

When selecting a secret question, don’t choose a question whose answer can be guessed easily.

 

 

Set daily online transaction limits that better suit you :

When you register for BoC Online Banking Facility , you can specify daily transaction limit for all accounts as well as the transaction limits for individual accounts.

 

 

Check you are on Bank of Ceylon's site before logging in :

Before you login to Online Banking, check you are connecting directly to the real BOC Online Banking service.

  • Checking for the SSL secure connection symbol ( a locked padlock) on the bottom status bar of your browser ( or to the right of the address bar if you are using Internet Explorer Version 7.0)
  • Double-clicking on the padlock symbol. Our certificate has been 'digitally signed' by Verisign, the most recognised issuer of digital certificates in the world

When viewing our Online Banking certificate always ensure that

  • It has been 'Issued to' BOC
  • The 'Issued by' section refers to www.verisign.com
  • The date specied is with in a valid range

When viewing our Online Banking certificate always ensure that

  • It has been 'Issued to' BOC
  • The 'Issued by' section refers to www.verisign.com
  • The date specied is with in a valid range

If the certificate details differ from this

We will never email you asking for confirmation of your security details or passwords. If an email asking for personal information looks like it is from Bank of Ceylon
  • don't reply to the email in anyway
  • please immediately contact us
  • delete the email from your email list
 

 

Secure your computer :

  • Daily run an anti-virus program on your computer to prevent computer viruses and spyware from entering your computer system and upgrade your virus protection on a regular basis.
  • Don’t allow strangers to access your computer.
  • Don’t open email or email attachments from a person or organization that you do not know you can trust. Scan email through your anti-virus program. Never click on an email that asks for your personal banking information.
  • Make sure , you close your browser after performing transactions online. It will allow you to avoid others accessing your account details.
  • If your computer has been infected, it may be acting 'weirdly'. Take action if your computer
    • is random dialing - or dialing strange numbers
    • has unusual icons appearing on your desktop or start menu
    • ha s extra toolbars
    • programs lock up frequently
    • home page is changing
  • In some cases, unobstrusive or covert issues such as keyboard loggings or spyware may not be obvious. We recomment you
    • review your online transactions regularly
    • ensure all activity has been initiated by you
    • contact us to report anything that seems suspicious or odd
 

 

Be cautious when using public or shared computers :

If you are using a public or shared computer to access your accounts, try to ensure the computer has the latest anti-virus software, anti-spyware software, firewall protection and browser software installed.
