( March 04, 2008 ) BOC Strengthens Internet Banking Site Visitor Trust Using Extended Validation SSL - At a time when online businesses face a crisis in consumer confidence, Bank of Ceylon today announced it has added an additional layer of security to visually assure customers that they’re at an authentic Bank of Ceylon Web site. As part of BOC’s initiative to lead the fight against online fraud, it has deployed VeriSign Extended Validation (EV) Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Certificates for Internet Banking. The Bank of Ceylon joins a growing list of more than 2,500 online businesses that have adopted advanced validation solutions from VeriSign, Inc., the leading provider of Internet infrastructure for the networked world. Extended Validation SSL Certificates give high security Web browsers information to clearly identify a Web site’s organisational identity so w hen BOC customers using Internet Explorer 7 or the latest release of Firefox 3 visit sites protected with VeriSign EV SSL, the address bar in their browser turns green. The simple green address bar appearing in the browser when accessing the Bank of Ceylon’s Internet Banking facility would help assure its customers that they have reached a legitimate web site and not a tool of clever identity thieves. VeriSign EV SSL protection helps Bank of Ceylon to combat e-criminals who use fraudulent sites and pages to illegally capture passwords and credit card numbers. “Bank of Ceylon has shown the continued commitment to lead the fight against Internet Identity Theft becoming yet again the first bank in Sri Lanka to deploy VeriSign’s EV SSL that offers a major advantage for Internet Banking sites aiming to build trust with customers at first glance,” said Dr Gamini Wickramasinghe, Chairman of Bank of Ceylon. “When customers visit our Internet Banking site and spot the green bar, they know they’ve found a safe place to bank on the Internet. In an age where identity theft is a constant concern for many shoppers, this reassurance is invaluable”, added Mr. B.A.C. Fernando, General Manager of the bank. The protection of Bank of Ceylon’s Internet Banking with VeriSign EV SSL is aimed at fulfilling a critical need of the bank’s customers: trust. Security solutions such as VeriSign EV SSL helps customers easily identify the authentic Bank of Ceylon site versus an imposter site, which helps customers bank online with confidence. “Increasingly, our customers need to do their daily banking activities online due to fast-paced life styles and the conveniences offered by Internet Banking. The deployment of VeriSign EV SSL is a key milestone in our quest to provide Banking Technology for the changing lifestyles of our customers,” said Nissanka Janaratne, Head of IT of BOC. |
